Heat Pumps water Heating System

Air source heat pumps can provide fairly low costs pace heating. A high efficiency heat pump can provide up to four times as much heat as an electric heater using the same energy . ln comparison to gas as a primary heat source ,however , the lifetime cost of an air source heat pump may be affected by the price of electricity compared to gas (where available). Use of gas may be associated with higher carbon emission , depending how the electricity is generated.

As air source heat pump (ASHP) is a system which transfers heat from outside to inside a building, orviceversa. Under the principles of vapor compression refrigeration, an ASHP uses a refrigerant system involving a compressor and a condenser to absorb heat at one place and release it at another. They can be used as a space heater or cooler, and are sometimes called “reverse-cycle air conditioners”.

How heat pump works:

  • Heat from ambient air is absorbed by evaporator coils containing refrigerant at low pressure an low temperature.
  • Due to heat absorption the refrigerant boils & vaporizes.
  • After passing through compressor, the refrigerant attains high temperature & high pressure and enters into condenser with heat exchanger.
  • While condenser the refrigerant transfers heat to the water in the Heat Exchange and thus loses its temperature.
  • The refrigerant further loses is pressure & temperature while passing through expansion value and enters evaporator chamber. Thus the cycle repeats.
  • The COP (Coefficient of performance ) is between 3.5 to 4 which means that, it will produce 3.5 to 4 units of heat energy by consuming 1 units of electricity.
